Bangladesh has sent a diplomatic message to India requesting the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister of Bangladesh, who is currently facing trial in her home country. India has confirmed receiving this request but has not yet commented on the matter. Hasina, who is 77 years old, left Bangladesh on August 5 after widespread protests led to the collapse of her 16-year government. The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants for Hasina and other former government officials for alleged crimes against humanity and genocide.
The government of Bangladesh has sent a letter to the Indian foreign ministry regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina. They are currently working on the process, as an extradition treaty exists between the two countries. Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus recently stated that they will seek Hasina's return from India to ensure justice for the killings. Since Hasina's removal from power, Bangladesh's Hindu and minority populations have faced numerous attacks, as highlighted by a statement from an ISKCON official citing data provided by an Indian minister.
Mr. Das expressed concern about recent attacks on Hindu temples and urged the Christian minority in Bangladesh to be cautious when celebrating Christmas. He stated that in the last few days, three temples were attacked. He mentioned that the Christmas holidays were approaching and that the Christian communities had been advised to celebrate carefully because there was a risk of attacks on them. Mr. Das hoped that the interim government of Bangladesh would provide adequate security so that the minorities in Bangladesh could celebrate their festivals without any fear. Mr. Singh, in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, said that India had taken these incidents seriously and shared its concerns with the Bangladesh government. He emphasized India's expectation that the Bangladesh government would take measures to ensure the safety of minorities and added that the High Commission of India in Dhaka continued to monitor the situation in the neighboring country.
