In the 11 match of IPL 2017, Kolkata Knight Riders were facing Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Kolkata won the toss and chose to field first.
South African Batsman Hasim Amla and Manan Vohra came into bat first. The opening pair did not make much impact in the match as they scored 25 off 27 balls and 28 off 19 balls.
Punjab skipper Glenn Maxwell, who came at 4th to bat scored 25 off 14 and David Miller, Wriddhaman Saha added 28 off 19 and 25 off 17 respectively.
The Knight Riders bowlers put up a creditable show to peg back the visiting side to 170 for nine after they made a breezy start after being put in by Gambhir, who won the toss.
But, they were also benefitted from the home side’s pathetic fielding, which added 16 extra runs to the total that included 13 wides and two no balls.
Knight Riders again provided an opening surprise. After Chris Lynn did the damage against Gujarat Lions in their first match by scoring 93 not out with skipper Gautam Gambhir, it was Sunil Narine, who filled in the opener’s shoes at the Eden Gardens after the Australian was ruled out with an injury. The right-arm off break bowler scored magnificent 37 off 18, who gave the hosts the right start to record a comfortable eight-wicket victory with 21 balls to spare. It was the Punjab’s first defeat in their third match this season.
Narine played an amazing innings with his bat, as he swung at almost everything that came into his path. He was finally caught at deep mid-wicket by Axar Psatel off Varun Aaron.
Gautam Gambhir too found the boundary at regular intervals and remained unbeaten on 72 off 49 balls.
Wicket keeper batsman, Robin Uthappa scored 26 off 16 and Pandya scored 25 off 16 balls.
