A cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir through a post on social media said that people, who burn the national flag instead of imprisonment will have serve two years in the military.
The statement by former Indian team cricketer and parliamentarian came after Pakistan-backed protesters in London burnt Indian national flag on August 15 condemning India’s decision to revoke special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The 37-year-old in his latest post on Twitter criticized people who disrespect the Indian flag and shared a popular quote from veteran United States army general James Mattis, who had once famously said that people who burn the national flag should not be jailed but made to serve in the army for two years.
The post also included a message that said “This should be implemented in our country too” in reference to India.

Earlier in 2017, Gambhir voiced his ire towards anti-nationals when a large number of Indians abroad and people in Jammu and Kashmir region burned the tri-color in protest over Indian government’s treatment of Kashmir.
