The Special Investigation Team that is probing Gulbarga riots case has given clean chit to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. SIT submitted its report on post Godhra riots case in Gulbarga in 2002 to the Ahmedabad Court on Tuesday.
In its report, SIT has clearly indicated that it didn’t find any evidences against Narendra Modi pertaining to the riots issue. It has further stated that it was closing down the case since it did not receive any substantial evidences in the case. Metropolitan Magistrate M S Bhatt on Tuesday has briefed that no proofs were obtained against the accused in the case. It may be noted that a petition was filed against Narendra Modi and 50 others by Zakria Zaffri alleging that they were responsible for riots.
Notably, Zakria Zaffri is the widow of Congress party parliament member Ishaan Zaffri. While the incident took place way back in February 2002, SIT was set up to look into the issue. After years of inquiry, SIT today came out with the report that it had closed the case due to insufficient evidences. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad Court has directed the Special Investigation Team to give the copy of the final report to the petitioner.
