Police today seized an unaccounted amount Rs.17.35 lakh from a vehicle at Devarakarra check post in Mahaboobnagar district during a routine check up.

The police have taken into custody the car driver and are trying to find out the details of cash. Police suspect that the cash is being used to distribute among voters in the Mahaboobnagar assembly by poll.

Police officials have intensified checking at various check posts and are trying to halt the flow of cash in the by polls on the instructions of the election commission officials.

This is fourth time cash was seized from different vehicles and persons after the notification was issued for the March 18 by polls for seven assembly seats in the state. (J)
