Google is developing a new feature that will allow users to create AI-generated podcasts from their research notes. The experimental feature, which has the potential to "summarize content, make connections between topics, and tell jokes in sequence," is currently available through NotebookLM's AI-powered note-taking app. Google describes the new audio overview feature as "a new way to turn your documents into engaging audio discussions." In a blog post, the tech giant said two AI moderators can start a dynamic "in-depth" discussion based on a resource with one click . Users can also save these interactions. NotebookLM supports language overview tools. "You summarize your content, connect threads and make jokes," said Biao Wang, product manager at Google Labs, in a blog post testing the new NotebookLM feature and reporting that the AI host used modern speech in a human-like voice, however, the AI sometimes spells words and phrases like “P-L-U-S.”

Open one of your notebooks in NotebookLM, access the notebook tutorials to take advantage of the new features, and then click the Generate button to generate an audio summary. Meanwhile, Google says that while this new feature may be a useful tool, it has its limitations. For example, if your notebook is large, creating an audio summary might take several minutes. Additionally, there is no way to disrupt AI-equipped hosts. The host currently only speaks English, which “can sometimes lead to inaccuracies.” NotebookLM accepts Google Docs, PDFs, text documents, as well as Google Slides and web URLs as sources. So with these resources you can create a small podcast. Please note that using the Audio Summary option may take some time. Google expanded NotebookLM to more than 200 countries earlier this year, and the feature's underlying large language model has been improved to Gemini 1.5 Pro. Additionally, Google introduced NotebookLM in June 2023. Acts like a virtual research assistant, summarizing facts, explaining complex ideas and developing new connections.
