The BCCI is set to elect the new President, aftermath Jagmohan Dalmiya’s sudden death. The new chief would be elected during the Special General Meeting scheduled to be held in Mumbai on 4 October 2015, according to a report in IBNLive.com. The report said that the notifications were sent to state units by a senior office bearer and the board would dispatch the official notification to its members within a day.

Earning board secretary Anurag Thakur’s support as well as the Sharad Pawar group’s support, Shashank Manohar emerged as top favorite for the top post. Manohar is being projected as the consensus candidate as a replacement to Jagmohan Dalmiya who passed away last week.

Lawyer, Shashank Manohar served as the President of BCCI from 2008 to 2011. The 57-year-old is known for his uncompromising attitude and clean image towards sport corruption. It is learnt that he was the only one candidate acceptable by the factions of Thakur and Pawar. Lalit Modi, former IPL chairman, was accused of several irregularities and was banned during the Manohar's tenure. Manohar will have at least 15 out of 29 votes as the Pawar and Thakur faction came together.

A senior official of BCCI told PTI that, "It took a lot of persuasion from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Anurag Thakur to convince a reluctant Manohar to take up the top job all over again. The deal was clinched when Pawar, the leader of Manohar's group, also gave his go-ahead in the matter along with former treasurer Ajay Shirke."

As per the rules of BCCI, it is the East Zone Associations’ turn to nominate a presidency candidate. Reports suggest that National Cricket Club (NCC) or Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) would most probably propose Monahor's name. Both NCC and CAB are controlled by Sourav Ganguly, former India captain.
