BCCI is set to appoint an Ombudsman at its AGM. It is scheduled to be held on 9 November 2015 at its headquarters. This comes as a follow up to Shashank Manohar’s views, which were expressed after his re-election as the President of BCCI.
One of the major changes proposed at Annual General Meeting of BCCI in the Memorandum of Rules and Regulations is the appointment of the Ethics Officer or Ombudsman. The BCCI general body will appoint the Ombudsman “to deal with the complaints of Conflict of Interest and any act of indiscipline or misconduct or violation of any of the Rules and Regulations of the Board by an administrator,” as per the proposed wordings of the clause. One more vital change in the clauses is the one about the approval of President of every team selected by the national selection panel.
Because of this, Mahendra Singh Dhoni escaped the axe when Krishnamachari Srikkanth headed the earlier selection panel removed him as ODI captain after 4-0 Test series rout in Australia in 2012 only for the then BCCI president N. Srinivasan vetoing the move.
As per the existing clause: The president shall approve the composition of the team selected by the Selection Committee.
The proposed changed clause reads: The president along with the Office Bearers shall approve the composition of a team selected by the National Selection Committee from time to time.
