The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) included 52 more drugs under Price Regulated, which are deemed to be essential for pain relief and antibiotic treatment. Now, with this move common people can afford the medicine.

400 essential treatments are in the purview of NPPA’s price regulation. In September, NPPA had included 36 drugs, those to treat infections and diabetes. Whenever this kind of steps is taken by government, the foreign and major companies are expressing their unwillingness to provide drugs at lowered rates.

NPPA Deputy Director Naresh Arya told reporters the latest NPPA’s order applicable to specific companies also including Lupin, Cadila Health Care and Merck for some drugs. But mentioned companies or brands did not express their version till now.

This capping of price on certain essential drugs make greater shift on the poor and middle class strata of society.
