The Bombay High Court was told by the Central Board of Film Certification that Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency" will receive a certificate if certain recommended cuts are made. The movie, originally scheduled for release on September 6, has been in a dispute with the censor board over the non-issuance of a release certificate. Kangana Ranaut, who directed, co-produced, and played the lead role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, accused the censor board of delaying the certification to postpone the release. The biographical drama has faced controversy after Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, objected to it, claiming misrepresentation of the community and historical inaccuracies. Last week, the High Court strongly criticized the censor board for not making a decision on issuing the certificate, stating that it cannot remain neutral and must make a decision, as failure to do so would amount to restricting freedom of speech and expression.

The court directed the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) to make a decision on the film "Emergency" by September 25. The movie's co-producer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, had approached the High Court, requesting the CBFC to issue a certificate for the film, which is directed by Kangana Ranaut. During the court proceedings, the judges asked the CBFC if it had any positive news regarding the film. The CBFC's lawyer informed the court that the board's revising committee had made a decision, suggesting some cuts before the certificate could be issued and the movie could be released. The lawyer representing Zee Entertainment asked for time to decide whether or not to make the suggested cuts. The court then adjourned the matter for further hearing on September 30. Zee Entertainment had claimed in its petition that the CBFC had already prepared the certificate for the movie but was not issuing it.
