Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first trip to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) since 2014 in September, is likely to give a quick rundown his global vision and his government’s achievements over the past five years, including climate change initiatives, digitization and women’s empowerment.

Besides, Modi is expected to focus on reforming international institutions, including the UN, ahead of India’s proposed inclusion for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in 2021-22, according to Economic Times.

Though Modi attended the UNGA in 2015 for the UN Sustainable Development Summit, he did not address the UNGA. 

He addressed the Assembly in 2014, proposing that the yoga day on June 21 be celebrated every year. 

Modi will be addressing UNGA during the week beginning September 23. Besides, he will be a key leader at the UN Secretary General's climate change initiative. 

The Indian PM’s presence in New York will enable meetings with various leaders. He will address a business meeting organized by financial news and data provider Bloomberg and highlight business opportunities in India. 

Ahead of New York, Modi is expected to address the Indian community in Houston, which has more than 500,000 Indian Americans, on September 22. Houston is also home to several energy companies. 

“Howdy, Modi!", the Indian-American community summit, will be hosted by the Texas India Forum, a Houston-based non-profit that is expected to bring together tens of thousands of people, according to a press release. “Howdy" is shorthand for 'How do you do?' and is a friendly greeting in the southwestern United States.

This will be Modi's third major address to the Indian American community after he became the Prime Minister in 2014. The previous ones were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014, and Silicon Valley in 2016. Both the events were attended by over 20,000 people.
