US-based Hindenburg Research, which has targeted several companies including the Adani group, will be liquidated, founder Nate Anderson said. “I have decided to close Hindenburg Research. The project ended after we finished the ideas we were working on," he said on the Hindenburg website. Anderson also made it clear in his statement a few days before Donald Trump's inauguration that there was no specific threat or personal problem behind the decision. Hindenburg targeted the Adani group in 2022, saying the group was "nothing but lies" and "calculated attacks on India". In August 2024, the short seller launched another attack on Ports Group for Energy, dismissing previously dismissed allegations as "recycled claims". When Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, talked a month later about being short-sold by Jobs, he said it taught him "a very profound lesson."

“Our sense of leadership has never been more evident than during the attack on the financial markets last January. This was a short selling attack initiated by foreigners. “It led to a political firestorm,” he said. The Hindenburg previously targeted Indian market manager Madhavi Puri Buch and her husband. The short agent's move follows what an influential Republican lawmaker called the US government's decision to investigate companies within the billion-dollar Adani group. In a letter to Attorney General Merrick B. Garland earlier this month, Congressman Lance Gooden questioned the need to continue the move, which complicates America's global alliances.
