Year's most blustering typhoon - the Utor, gusted Philippines today, causing heavy earthfall and heavy , shutting down power and communications and leaving 9 fishermen missing.
The coastal town of Casiguran in Aurora province is believed to be worst affected.
"Power was cut in the wee hours of the morning up to now, as well as communication lines in three towns in Aurora, Casiguran included," provincial governor Gerardo Noveras told ANC television, adding that the full extent of damage was still unknown.
The Utor, which is the 12th tropical cyclone this year, is expected to gale the northern Philippine provinces of Benguet and Ilocos Sur before retreating towards the South China Sea by Tuesday.
Although no casualty has been reported so far, the national disaster agency confirmed that nine fisherman has gone missing since morning.
As many as 20 cyclone storms Philippines every year, causing massive devastation and death.
National calamity was announced in December 2012 after typhoon Bopha killed more than 700 people.
