Jayalalitha appoints a team to monitor Pudukottai Assembly by-poll

AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu CM, J Jayalalitha, commissioned a 43 member team to monitor the preparations for the June 12 by-election to the Pudukottai Assembly seat.

All party leaders were entrusted for the victory of party nominee V R Karthik Thondaiman.

The by-election resulted by the death of CPI MLA S. P. Muthukumaran.

In the 2011 Assembly elections, Pudukottai’s seat was won by CPI with AIADMK support.

42 year old V R Karthik Thondaiman hails from the Thondaiman family who ruled the Pudukottai princely state.

At present, Karthik is Pudukottai’s Municipal Chairman and also district MGR Youth Wing leader.

Karthik’s father, Rajakumar Vijayaragunatha Thondaiman was elected to the Assembly from Pudukottai’s constituency in 1967, 1977 and 1980 on Congress ticket.

A few weeks ago, CM Jayalalitha announced Rs. 50 crore special development packages in Assembly to mark the centenary celebrations of Pudukottai Municipality. (msn)
