The CBI special court at Nampally in Hyderabad today deferred for tomorrow hearing on the bail petition of the suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, accused in the illegal mining case involving the former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan reddy.
Srilakshmi said in her petition that she was eligible for bail under Clause 2 of Section 167 of Cr PC as the CBI has not so far filed charge sheet against her even after 60 days of her arrest.
The CBI officials probing the illegal mining case are the most frustrated lot as the Centre has not acted on their letter seeking sanction for the prosecution of Srilakshmi. Srilakshmi decided to take advantage of the delay and filed the bail petition.
The CBI has also sought the prosecution of two other IAS officers BP Acharya and LV Subramanyam, both accused in the Emaar-APIIC land scam. The CBI is not sure of getting an early response in their case either. (J)
