Srilakshmi spent Women’s Day reading books

Suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi kept off the International Women’s Day celebrations conducted by the Chanchalguda Jail authorities on Thursday.

Jail authorities said she spent her time reading books and chit-chatting with fellow remand prisoners. “We invited all the 260 prisoners but most of the remand prisoners including Srilakshmi chose not to attend the celebrations,” Basheera Begum, superintendent of the Chanchalguda Women’s Prison told journalists.

The jail authorities conducted the women’s day celebrations in association with some NGOs. At the end of the celebrations, prizes were given away to the winners in competitions.

To have a break from the routine food, the jail authorities also prepared special food as part of the celebrations. Rice, curry, Vegetable Palav and sweet Ravva Kesari were prepared for the lunch. “Sri Lakshmi, however, attended the lunch along with others,” said the jail official. (J)
