As winter approaches, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is reaching alarming levels across the country, making it difficult to breathe well without inhaling pollutants. In fact, in cities like New Delhi, the AQI has reached a threshold of 500, which can lead to permanent health complications. One way to reduce this threat is to stay home and use an air purifier. If you're looking for a new air purifier, there are great options at a variety of prices. However, if your products aren't performing as well as you'd like, here are some simple tips that can significantly improve their performance and help you achieve cleaner, more breathable air. Here are five simple tips to improve the performance and efficiency of your air purifier.

A good air purifier has a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter that should be replaced throughout its lifespan. Most HEPA filters last more than 9,000 hours and most smart air purifiers have a filter change indicator. Replace the filter as soon as the replacement indicator lights up. In some cases, you can clean the HEPA filter manually. Check your product's user manual. The filter does all the heavy lifting, so you need to make sure it's in the best shape to maximize air purification efficiency.

Pet owners need to be a little more careful when cleaning air purifiers as pet hair can easily block the air intake. Again, all you need to do is perform preventative maintenance to keep your air purifier and filters as clean as possible. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to remove pet hair and dust particles from the air purifier. Also, try to keep your pet away from the air purifier to avoid physical damage to the air purifier or the pet itself.

The location of the air purifier is just as important as purchasing the right model. Make sure all parts of the air purifier have access to air, especially if it has 360-degree support. Again, avoid placing one side of the air purifier against a wall as this may restrict airflow. In fact, you can even use an air purifier with a fan to improve air circulation. However, fans tend to circulate fresh air quickly, which can increase cleaning time, which is particularly useful if you have a very large room. The same applies to the air conditioning (AC). To improve the performance of the air purifier, we recommend that you run your fan or cooler at a lower setting.

When installing a new filter in the air cleaner, also make sure that the air inlet and outlet openings are clean. During prolonged use, dust particles may settle around the inlet and outlet openings, preventing air from entering or exiting the filter. Regularly clean the external and internal surfaces of the air purifier, observing all precautions. In order to achieve maximum performance, your air purifier needs to look as good on the inside as it did on the day you bought it, not just on the outside.

Turning off your air purifier after improving air quality can be just as harmful as not using it at all. Air purifiers, like refrigerators, need to run continuously, and most people do. If the air is stagnant, you should ensure that the air purifier cleans the air at low speed even while you sleep. Most modern air purifiers have a sleep mode in which they continue to clean the air at a low speed while using less energy. It is better to enable this mode than to disable it completely. In fact, turning your air purifier on and off manually twice a day can consume a lot of energy, and if you turn it off, you may unknowingly be breathing in polluted air even when the air purifier is on.
