The iPad mini (2024) was launched by Apple earlier this week. The company's first update to its smallest iPad model in three years is the A17 Pro chip. It's the same processor found in the iPhone 15 Pro models launching in September 2023, but Apple is using a "bind" version of the chip found in the previous generation of flagship smartphones in the iPad Mini (2024) can be found. However, this should not affect the performance of the new tablet in everyday use. According to Apple's specifications for the recently released iPad mini, the tablet's A17 Pro chip is equipped with a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max specs show that the A17 Pro chip found in last year's flagship phones has a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU.

This suggests that Apple may have equipped the iPad mini (2024) with a version of the A17 Pro processor. When building microprocessors or memory modules, some units perform better than others and are "grouped" or classified based on thermal performance, processing power, and other criteria. The company has already discontinued the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, and the A17 Pro chip has not been reused in this year's iPhone 16 series. This suggests that the company could reuse some of the A17 Pro chipset that didn't make it to the iPhone 15 Pro lineup in the new iPad models. The iPad mini (2024) specifications show that the tablet only has one less graphics core, which represents a small difference in performance compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. We expect to learn more about the A17 Pro's performance on the iPad Mini (2024) based on the benchmark results in the coming days. The new iPad will be available from October 23rd.
