Electronic glasses that allow bifocal wearers to swap between different prescription settings - from reading glasses to distant viewing - in a snap, might be a reality soon.
Experts are 'empowering' a new kind of glasses that will have world's first electronic focusing lenses. These lenses will contain a thin layer of liquid crystal that will change alignment once prompted, thereby changing the strength of the focus.
Ask people who wear bifocal glasses about the dubious vision they experience when they stare down? But all that's to change now.
Anyone wearing the electronic glass will just have to tilt his/her head downward or manually touch the frame and the distant viewing prescription will be activated and vice versa.
The emPower glasses will be embedded with a microchip, accelerometer and miniature rechargeable batteries and come in three settings - automatic, manual on and manual off to help the wearer stay in full control.
