Virender Sehwag has announced his retirement from all forms of International cricket and IPL on Twitter. The news comes a day after the indication by him during the launch of the Masters Cricket League in Dubai. He appeared last for India over two and a half years back.

Former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi has led the tributes to Sehwag saying, "Whatever he achieved in his career was on his terms without being conceited or arrogant. Uncomplicated cricketer with a rural flair which endeared him to the masses."

In his remarkable career, Sehwag scored 17,253 international runs in the international cricket. He is the only Indian cricketer to score a triple-century in Tests and that too twice. Standing fifth in all-time list of India, Sehwag scored 8586 runs from 104 Test matches. With 15 centuries, the opener score 8273 runs in ODIs, which also include his second-highest individual score of 219. He played 10 19 Twenty20 internationals, in which the right hander scored 394 runs. The cricketer took 96 wickets in ODIs and 40 wickets in Test matches. The dashing player has revolutionized the approach of openers with a strike rate of 82.23 as the best for any batsmen to aggregate over 2000 runs.

In March 2013 in Hyderabad, Sehwag played his last test against Australia, while his last ODI was played in January 2013 against Pakistan. In 2012, Veeru lost his place in the T20 team.
