Ajinkya Rahane was the first non-wicketkeeper player who took eight catches against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle to create a world record in a single Test match. Sir Lankan batting order was left in shuffle with Ajinkya’s fielding on the third day of the first test match at Galle.

The remarkable ‘eight catches’ feat was reached by Rahane, in the final session of the ongoing test match, when he caught Rangana Herath. Other victims of Rahane’s world record of maximum catches in a single test match were Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal in the first innings and Dhammika Prasad, Kumar Sangakkara, Thirimanne, Jehan Mubarak along with Herath in the second innings.

The 27-year old Rahane made a forgettable match, as he went out for duck while batting, as a memorable one with this extra ordinary fielding.

World record for most catches - by any fielder

Jack Russell, England's wicket keeper, and South African wicket keeper, AB de Villiers, jointly share the world record of most catches (by any fielder) in a Test match. They have record of 11 catches in a single test match.
