The former Under-19 captain, Unmukt Chand, will lead India A against Australia A and South Africa A in the upcoming tri-series, whereas Ambati Rayudu will lead the team in the two-match unofficial Test series against South Africa A.

Legspinner Karn Sharma was picked in both squads. He missed recent Zimbabwe tour because of fracture in figure. Karun Nair, Karnataka batsman, was picked as the vice-captain for tri series in addition to the unofficial Tests against South Africa A. Ankush Bains, Himachal Pradesh batsman, was selected due to strong domestic performance and Sheldon Jackson, Saurashtra batsman, was picked for strong performance in 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season.

Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra, Cheteshwar Pujara and KL Rahul were not available due to the Test series in Sri Lanka that begins soon. They were the part of India A squad for unofficial tests against Australia. Robin Uthappa and Manoj Tiwary were not selected for the tri series. They played against Zimbabwe in all ODIs. The matches of the tri-series will be played between in 5 August and 14 August. On August 18, the two-match series will be played in Wayanad, Kerala, against South Africa A.
