Face masks are a powerful weapon in combating the coronavirus. But, when should you use them? Experts say using them every time doesn’t work.
Ever since the coronavirus outbreak in India, face masks are made mandatory by the central government. Lately, many state governments have also announced penalties if they find people not wearing masks.
However, there has been a discussion after a viral tweet on whether it is mandatory to wear face masks while driving solo or alone in a vehicle.
Here’s what the official orders from the government say:
- According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), it is mandatory for any person to wear a mask while moving in personal or official vehicles even while commuting solo.
- It is mandatory to use face masks in public places like markets, busy streets, and hospitals.
- You must never forget your masks while traveling in public transport like autos and buses.
- Face masks must also be worn at offices, during meetings, and at weddings or funerals.
- The enforcing agencies will impose a fine of Rs.500 for the first offence and Rs. 1000 fro repeated offence.
- Any person flouting the rules or is unable to pay the fine will be penalized under Section 188 of IPC which attracts a maximum fine of Rs. 1000 or six months of imprisonment.
- Whether you should cover your mouth and nose while driving solo entirely depends on the situation.
- If you are sitting alone in your own car then there is no need to wear a mask.
- However, if you are in a cab or sharing your car with someone you must don it.
- If you are sick or have symptoms like common cold, cough or throat pain, it is advised to wear a mask even if you are driving solo.
- Owing to the contagious nature of the coronavirus, it is completely alright if you choose to wear a mask while driving alone.
- Even if you are driving for shorter distances in your vehicle you can wear your face mask to feel safe.
- But make sure that when you wear your mask, do not touch it. Frequent touching of the mask will make it worthy of nothing.
- There is no harm in wearing your face mask inside in your car even when you are alone. But keep in mind that sometimes wearing a mask can reduce your field of vision.
- Make sure you wear your mask correctly. The mask should only cover your mouth and your nose without blocking the range of sight.
- While taking off your mask make sure you remove it using the strings of the mask. DO NOT touch the mak surface with your bare hands.
- Purchase a sanitizer spray if you can and sanitize your mask after every use.
- Throw your mask into a trash can if you have used it more than 3 times.
