When the entire India is talking of Mamata Banerjee’s inclusion in Time’s 100 most influential people of the world today, the Trinamul Congress MP, singer and a songwriter, Kabir Suman takes on the party president and the West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee in his own style.
Music, which is not just a passion to 62-year-old singer-turned-politician Kabir Suman, is also used as a tool to oppose the ideas and question the things that disturb him. Kabir Suman, who earlier composed several songs against the steps of the Bengal Government, this time composed Hasi Niye Thako (live with a smile).
Kabir Suman wrote this song, composed it at his residence and finally posted it on Facebook. This song was posted just two days after the arrest of Jadavpur University chemistry professor, who distributed cartoons of Mamata Banerjee on Facebook. Kabir Suman, who opposed this high-handedness, went ahead and expressed his views in the form of this song.
It may be recalled that JU professor allegedly circulated cartoons of Mamata that created led to his arrest under several sections of IPC and IT Act. The Mamata Government drew criticism from several sections of the society especially from the intellectuals. The people said that they fear the extreme steps of the government.
For most of the people who love didi, these lyrics don’t mean a lot, as the happy news (inclusion of her name in Time’s coveted list) followed. (Phani)
