The union home minister P Chidambaram has today said that there was no conflict between the Centre and the State over the NCTC-National Counter Terrorism Centre. He made these statements after he came under attack-in today’s meeting to discuss internal security- by several chief ministers that the Centre didn’t seek the opinion of the states over its proposal of setting up NCTC. The chief ministers who expressed displeasure include the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha.
He stressed that half of the major cases were cracked only with the joint efforts of the Centre and the state police and said that there was no conflict between central agencies and the state police forces at the operation level.
He has also said that they can make country stronger and secure by working together. Further, he said that it would even lead to a better growth of the country. Meanwhile, the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who earlier wanted the Centre to discuss NCTC with all states, has refrained herself from attending the meeting stating that one day would not be enough for discussion several issues pertaining to the same subject.
