Prof who drew Mamata toon says he fears for life

Jadavpur University professor, Ambikesh Mahapatra, who was picked up by the police on Friday for drawing the cartoons of the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has said that he feared for his life over the entire episode. The chemistry professor gave a police complaint on Saturday stating that he was allegedly beaten up by a group of 15 persons belonging to the Trinamul Congress party. The police, who took up the complaint, has arrested four persons in connection with the assault. They were, however, given a bail by the Alipore Court on personal bond of Rs.500 each.

It may be noted that Ambikesh’s cartoon on Internet showing Mamata Benarjee in ill light over the recent sacking of the union railway minister us charged under several IPC sections besides IT Act. Many political parties and student unions came down heavily on the act of the police. It has to be mentioned that the professor was granted bail on Friday and today he told he complained the police about the incident and even briefed the same to the media.
