Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi held a high level meeting of party general secretaries and officer bearers at the AICC head quarters in Delhi today to churn out reasons for the party’s dismal performance in the just concluded assembly elections in the five states.
Sonia held extensive consultations with the general secretaries and office bearers in the first round and then discussed the issue again with the in-charge general secretaries in the five states.
The meeting was not attended by general secretary Rahul Gandhi who accepted responsibility for the defeat of the party in the elections in the state.
On the other hand, speculation has gained ground that regional outfits like AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, JD (U) in Bihar, SP in UP, Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and BJD in Orissa are going ahead to form a fourth front to fight together in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Reports said the powerful regional satraps will meet shortly to chalk out their action plan to finalize the action plan for forming the fourth front. (J)
