Shinzo Abe has become the Prime Minister five months ago after he rose to power and he hasn't yet moved to the Official Residence of the Prime Minister of Japan yet. This delay has strengthened the rumors about the residence being haunted and hence the PM is hesitant to occupy the ghost riddled building.

However, the government decided to calm down the situation stating in an announcement that the delay was not linked to any such hauntings and that they had no information about the same.

It was reported that a few people witnessed the ghosts of the past in the land where many assassinations were conducted. They were told to be strolling in the corridors of the building but the government is yet to see.

Asked by an opposition lawmaker about the reported hauntings, the government issued a formal statement on Friday saying it was not aware of ghost sightings, Asahi newspaper and other media reported.

The 84 year old building first built in 1929 was a site for military rebellions. In 1932, Tsuyoshi Inukai the then Prime Minister was assassinated at the site. This was the origin of the ghost rumors which continued unabated.

In 2000 the building was remodeled and has been serving the Prime Minister and the Premier's families ever since.

Abe has not yet given any reasons for not moving in but he doesn't need to. The PMs generally take a lot of time to move into the Official Residence.
