The actual story behind the chaos in Bangladesh:
Bangladesh turned into turmoil after the High Court announced a reservation bill that restored a 30 percent job quota bill for the heirs of the 1971 War of Independence soldiers. More than 200 people were dead and more than 10,000 were injured. Other countries' students including Indians used ports to cross the country border. The students are not against the quotas, but they are only against the quota provided for the heirs of freedom fighters. On Friday, nearly 2000 people gathered in the capital city, Dhaka demanding justice and also for the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Ministerinister Hasina. Police forces tried to bring control over the situation and fired tear gas and stun grenades. The protests are continuing all around the country, not only in Dhaka. Students are roaming around and calling for the job quota call-off.
Students started with a peaceful protest but ended as a terror with some of the political parties involved. Dramatic videos of the deadly clashes are surfacing on the internet. One of the heart-wrenching videos is of a six-year-old, who was shot while playing on the roof. The prime minister of the country blames her political rival party Jamaat e Islami for the situation and bans it. The party was banned by imposing the anti-terror law. However, the chief of Jamaat e Islami, Shafiqur Rahman has called it unconstitutional and denied the allegations of their involvement in the recent leaked videos. Shafiqur Rahman said the teachers, journalists, and even the public are protesting against the genocide of the government.
As per sources, even the internet speed and VPN usage have been cut. The ban on the internet was imposed on July 17 and even the broadband was shut down on July 18, while the social media was active till August 2nd. To get control over the situation Bangladesh banned social media like TikTok, WhatsApp, YouTube, and Instagram on August 2nd. The world is watching Bangladesh and the incidents going against quotas. It is high time for the world to consider the quotas and find a solution.
