US Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a sombre crowd at Howard University after her defeat by Republican challenger Donald Trump. He promised to continue the fight that led to the US election. The 60-year-old is due to step down in 72 days but has announced no immediate plans for his political career. So what does the future hold for Kamala Harris? The most obvious choice for former Democratic candidates is to wait for the right time and prepare for a second bid in 2028. There are several examples from the past. Although candidate John Kerry lost to George W. Bush in 2004, he did not completely disappear from the political scene. He served as Secretary of State during President Barack Obama's second term. Another option is to return to state politics and get back on track like John Kerry. But it looks like the road won't be easy for Harris. Mark Buell, a longtime Democratic donor, expressed a frustration shared by many in his home state. “Everyone is devastated,” he told the New York Times.

Richie Greenberg, a San Francisco-based Republican commentator, said Harris may struggle to regain the financial support he once enjoyed. One possible path for Harris, given his widespread name recognition and connections, could be to become press secretary for the Democratic Party. But Greenberg believes the company will face challenges in reviving financial support from its San Francisco base. Like at least two former Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore, who lost the presidential election and decided to devote themselves to writing and other activities, Harris may be thinking along these lines. After her loss to Trump in 2016, Hillary wrote a book called “What Happened,” while Gore produced a documentary called “An Inconvenient Truth.” In a few months, Harris could leave the office of vice president and take the oath of office on October 27th. "I'm going to gain a few pounds when this is over," Harris said at a bookstore in Pennsylvania. “They work me to the bone”.

Otherwise, Ms. Harris could follow the path of Ms. Clinton, who became less involved in politics and more focused on her personal life. Nevertheless, he continues to maintain good relationships with his donors.
