The new variant of coronavirus named Omicron was spotted first in South Africa and the variant is now traced in more than 30 countries of the globe. All the countries are kept on high alert and there are new travel restrictions imposed for international travelers. South Africa reported 16,055 new cases of coronavirus and the rise is up to 468 percent since the last one week. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned the country to be extra cautious about the new variant. The experts in South Africa expressed their concern over the rising number of cases in South Africa. 25 people passed away in the country on Friday and there are new cases among the children.
The experts say that the children were never impacted in the previous pandemic but now the new variant has been impacting children. There are a lot of admissions in children under the age of five years and among the teenagers aged between 15 and 19 years. The experts are suggested the government of South African to intensify the vaccination drive as the percentage of the vaccinated population is quite low. More research is done on the variant of Omicron to find out more facts about the new variant. Two new cases of the Omicron variant are traced in India for now and more number of international travelers who arrived to India are under scanner.
