Nirbhaya may be dead, but the shock of what she has gone through is still fresh in everyones minds. The fate of four men, found guilty of gang-rape and murder, will be decided today by a Delhi fast track court. Judge Yogesh Khanna will determine how much punishment the criminals deserve for such an appalling conduct.
Before her death, the young student, named Nirbhaya by the media, apparently told her parents to burn them alive as the six men showed no remorse while they indulged in the heinous crime. Her parents too want a death sentence for the accused.
While one has killed himself, another was sentenced to a meager punishment of 3 years in a Juvenile court. The remaining four await the final decision, while the entire nation watches. Widespread protests in India following the incident brought out the need for changes in not just the justice system but a society's way of thinking.
If this is how parents bring up their sons, then they deserve a public hanging. But, does the judge think so? Nirbhaya's ghost is watching and Judge Yogesh Khanna is hopefully aware of that.
