In an incident reported in Gurgaon, police hand-cuffed at least three dozen sloshed juvenile foreigners and Indians from a pub. While the customers were freed later, the pub manager was retained in custody.

The incident was reported in a plaza on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. A troop of excise officers and police officials raided the pub at wee hours after mid night, after they found the bar open beyond the official closing time. The police arrested at least 37 juvenile, both boys and girls, for drinking illegally in the pub.

A case of “disobedience to order promulgated by public servant” was lodged against the bar manager Prabhat Kumar.

Half a dozen Indian customers were aged between 16 and 21 years, which is below the permissible age of 25 years for drinking liquor. Most of the other consumers were from Nigeria, officials said.

"The closing time of bars is midnight. The manager of the bar had shut it down at midnight but again opened it around 1.30 am," Subhash Kaushik, an excise inspector leading the team said. "On seeing the raiding team, the manager locked the bar from inside and it could be opened only at 4.30 am," Kaushik added.

"Our raid was under section 29 and 30 of the excise law and all those who were caught were later freed," Kaushik concluded.

The bar manager has been let out on bail.
