Group rivalries in the women’s wing of the AP Congress came to the fore on the occasion of the women’s day today.
The two rival groups, one led by AP Mahila Congress president Ganga Bhavani and the other by senior leader Rajani Reddy, almost came to blows at a meeting at the Gandhi Bhavan arranged as part of the International Women’s Day.
The clash started with Rajani Reddy barging into the meeting along with her supporters all of a sudden and questioning Ganga Bhavai for not inviting her to the meeting. “Why didn’t you invite me to the party meeting?” she asked Ganga Bhavani.
Rajani Reddy and her supporters alleged that Ganga Bhavai has been giving importance to the new comers in the party and neglecting her intentionally. The Rajani Reddy group also raised objections on giving importance to one Rekha who belonged to the erstwhile PRP in party affairs.
The allegations were denied by the supporters of the Ganga Bhavani group and soon a verbal war broke out between the rival supporters. The two groups hurled accusations against each other similar to a ladies’ fight at a street water tap and almost came to blows.
Finally, the situation came under control when senior leaders, who are sitting by in the next room, intervened in the matter. (J)
