The AP high court today asked the government to explain the reasons for encouraging the government’s infrastructure agency APIIC to invest in real estate business.
“Who authorized the APIIC to invest in real estate projects and who were behind the schemes?” asked the high court angrily. “Has the government tasted the real estate money?” the court reacted during the course of arguments on a case filed by Emaar Villa purchasers.
“How can you wash off your hands after handing over the lands to private persons?” the court questioned and directed the Advocate General to submit a report on the issue. The court said it was not concerned whether or not the CBI has filed charge sheet in the case. The issue is related to the public at large and the government has to give an explanation, said the court.
Hearing a petition filed by purchasers of villas in the Emaar Hills Township in Hyderabad challenging the Government’s decision withholding registration of the plots and villas, the court asked the APIIC not to subject the purchasers to harassment. “They have bought villas and why do you put them to trouble?” the court asked the Government and the APIIC.
