The government is reportedly toying with the idea of privatizing some of the roadways for public transportation and handing over some of the routes to private bus operators.

Reports are talking about the Government’s desire to reduce the burden of RTC which is unable to meet the public demands for ever increasing number of buses in the state. The Government has sanctioned 20,000 new buses in the state in recent times. However, the demand for more RTC bus services continued as ever.

The Government is of the view that RTC can’t run bus survives in all the routes in the state and thought of handing over some of the routes to private operators. “The government wants to retain the express, luxury, hi-tech and AC bus services in RTC fold and hand over to private operators the routes for which there is a demand for more number of buses,” said a source.
