WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps across the globe. There have been several security breaches traced but WhatsApp issued a clarification that the chats will be through end-to-end encryption. It means that the sender and receiver can access to the messages and the media that is shared between them. There are several questions raised about the security of the WhatsApp chats and the backups that are stored on the cloud without end-to-end encryption. There are hackers that can access your personal chats through your Google accounts as per the reports released by The Mirror. This is the first time a security expert has raised questions over the security of the cloud backup.
Some of the experts said that you can secure your charts through the disappearing option that is announced recently. The messages disappear after a limited time and they will not be stored in the clouds. WhatsApp also is working on end-to-end encryption to cloud backups. They are also working on E2EE backups on Google Drive and it will be extended for local backups too soon. This process is under testing mode for now. WhatsApp will soon provide users with the passphrase to unlock all the backups. They can use a 64-digit recovery key to access the backups if they forget the paraphrase.
