Zoom which is now the world’s most used video conferencing app has said that they will become safer and secure for all of its users and provide end to end encryption for safety and privacy reasons.

Because of the worldwide crisis of coronavirus all the offices have been working from home and the meetings and conferences have been transferred to online. Every meeting has been running online and people have been using various video conferencing apps for their conferences, seminars, interviews and many schools and colleges also have started their online classes using video conferencing. The lockdown has definitely taught us that we can learn and do everything from the comfort of our own homes.

Zoom app was in a lot of controversies during the beginning of the lockdown as there were many allegations of the video conferencing not being secure and that private data has been stolen from its users. People also speculated and alleged that the videos from around the world were being posted on the dark web and was not safe to use the app at all. After a lot of controversies Zoom had announced last month that it would offer end to end encryption to its paid users only.

The company also had its first-quarter earnings meeting last month where the CEO of the company, Eric Yuan confirmed that the end to end encryption would be offered only to the paid users.

And now it looks like the video conferencing app company has chosen to take another road and provide the end to end encryption not just to their paid users but to every user who uses their app for video conferencing of any kind. The CEO of the company had announced recently of their new transition for all its users paid or unpaid on their platform and also explained a reason behind this. They explained saying that the end-to ends encryption provided only to the paid users was like a draft designs for them to show it to their stake holders and investors. They were looking for a proper and affirmative feedback on this design of their new end to end encryption and that they are pleased to announce the new updates which does not separate between any users as all the users are equal to them. They also released the name of their updated design which is called E2EE design and the design was create and updated on GitHub.

The zoom app controversy runs back to the mid April when the Ministry of Home Affairs had warned us that the Zoom app is not safe for usage. They also pointed out that the app has a significant amount of weakness which can make it vulnerable to cyber-attacks. It also mentioned the leakage of sensitive office information to outsiders who can misuse the information which is supposed to be confidential.
