Google I/O 2025, the annual conference dedicated to developers, is officially scheduled for May 20 and 21. The event will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheater located in Mountain View, California. Registration for attendees has commenced, offering options to participate in person or to join via live streaming. This gathering generally features announcements regarding both hardware and software, demonstrations aimed at developers, technical sessions, workshops, and ample networking opportunities. Anticipations for this year include significant updates related to Android 16 and developments regarding Gemini.

In a recent blog announcement, the technology leader based in Mountain View confirmed that Google I/O 2025 will span two days, occurring on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21. They have also created a microsite that provides a wealth of information about the conference, a countdown timer, and a direct registration link. Historically, the event begins with a keynote address from Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, who outlines key products and software slated for release throughout the year. This keynote is expected to commence at 10 am PT (11:30 pm IST).

During Pichai's keynote, significant attention may be directed towards new features in Android 16. Another key topic for Google could be the AI chatbot Gemini, with expectations for a new Gemini 2.0 model launch. Last year, the company unveiled the Gemini 1.5 Pro, which boasted a context window capacity of two million tokens. The microsite also emphasizes Google AI Studio, open-source Gemma models, and NotebookLM, all of which may receive significant updates at the conference. Currently, no further details have been disclosed.

Recently, the company released the Android 16 Beta 1 update for compatible Google Pixel devices. This update included a new Live Updates feature that tracks the status of tasks such as food deliveries or navigation on Google Maps, akin to Apple’s Live Activities. Furthermore, Android 16 will incorporate a predictive back animation for the back button when operating in the three-button navigation mode, a feature that was previously exclusive to gesture-based navigation during a swipe back and hold action.
