Neuralink, a neurotechnology company co-founded by Elon Musk and a team of seven scientists and engineers, successfully implanted a brain device in its first human recipient. Elon Musk shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that the initial results show promising detection of neuron spikes. The company's first product will be called 'Telepathy'.

Established in 2016, Neuralink began a recruitment process last year to find participants for its brain implant trial on humans. This trial received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration and was open to individuals with quadriplegia caused by a cervical spinal cord injury or ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
In a previous statement on its website, Neuralink referred to the trial as 'PRIME' - Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface. The purpose of this groundbreaking investigational medical device trial is to develop a fully implantable, wireless brain-computer interface (BCI). The ultimate goal of Neuralink is to create direct communication pathways between the human brain and computers.
Neuralink's technology allows individuals with paralysis to use their thoughts to operate external devices. The main component of this technology is an implant called 'Link,' which is inserted into the brain through a surgical procedure. In a recent study, the R1 Robot was utilized to precisely position the ultra-fine and flexible threads of the N1 Implant in a specific area of the brain responsible for controlling movement intention. Once in place, the N1 Implant is completely concealed and can wirelessly transmit brain signals to an app that deciphers movement intention. The initial objective of this Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is to empower individuals to control a computer cursor or keyboard solely through their thoughts.
