On Thursday, Xiaomi introduced the Buds 5 Pro in China, coinciding with the launch of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone. These true wireless (TWS) earphones are available in a Wi-Fi variant that provides high-resolution lossless audio capabilities, in addition to the regular Bluetooth version. Featuring active noise cancellation (ANC) capable of reaching 55dB, the earbuds also include features for reducing background noise during calls, spatial audio, and support for the aptX Adaptive codec. They come with sound tuning by Harman and are reported to deliver a battery life of up to 40 hours when used with the charging case. The retail price for the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro in China begins at CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs. 15,600) for the Bluetooth model, while the Wi-Fi edition is listed at CNY 1,499 (around Rs. 18,000). Customers can currently purchase them through the Xiaomi China online store. The Wi-Fi variant is available in a Mirage Black hue, whereas the Bluetooth version comes in Snow Mountain White and Titanium Gold color choices.
The design of the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro follows a conventional in-ear style and features a dual amplifier and a triple driver setup, which comprises 11mm titanium-coated woofers and 10mm ceramic tweeters. These earbuds provide audio tuned by Harman AudioEFX and enhance experiences with spatial audio that includes dynamic head tracking capabilities. Users can expect up to 55dB ANC and call noise reduction that can reach 100dB. Additionally, the TWS earphones incorporate in-ear detection and offer touch controls. Xiaomi has confirmed that the Buds 5 Pro support Bluetooth 5.4, compatible with audio codecs like AAC, SBC, aptX Lossless, and aptX Adaptive LC3. The Wi-Fi model says to support the aptX Adaptive 4.2M codec, enabling lossless audio transmission of up to 4.2Mbps. Moreover, these earbuds come with an IP54 rating for protection against dust and water splashes.
Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi versions of the Xiaomi Buds 5 Pro claim to deliver total playback for up to 40 hours with the case included. The Bluetooth model reportedly provides a battery life of around 8 hours on a single charge, while the Wi-Fi variant extends this to approximately 10 hours. Each earbud is equipped with a 64mAh battery, and the accompanying charging case, which features a USB Type-C port, houses a 570mAh battery. The weight of each earbud is 5.6g, and the total weight of the earphones together with the case is 53g.
