Makhana, also known as foxnut, is recognized as a superfood and is an excellent complement to a nutritious, balanced diet. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi disclosed that he consumes makhana "at least 300 out of 365 days." He advocated for expanding the cultivation of this traditional Bihar crop on a global scale. "Makhana has now become a common breakfast item in various urban areas across the nation. Personally, I include makhana in my diet at least 300 days a year. This superfood should be introduced to international markets. Consequently, this year’s budget has proposed the establishment of a Makhana Board aimed at supporting farmers who cultivate makhana," the Prime Minister stated during a rally in Bhagalpur. Makhana comes from the Euryale ferox plant and is a rich source of many vital nutrients. Typically, makhana is roasted and enjoyed as a savory snack, but it can also enhance dishes like curries, desserts, and other sides.

Health advantages of makhana (foxnut):

- Abundant in vital nutrients: Makhana provides a good amount of protein, fiber, and carbohydrates, along with micronutrients such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus.
- Supports blood sugar regulation: With a low glycemic index, makhana is a suitable food option for individuals with diabetes. Research indicates that it may assist in better blood sugar management.
- Aids in weight loss: Thanks to its high protein and fiber content, makhana keeps you full for longer periods, thus curbing hunger cravings. Additionally, its low caloric content makes it a great choice for those focused on weight loss.
- Enhances heart health: The significant potassium levels in makhana can contribute to lowering cholesterol and maintaining healthy blood pressure.
- Packed with antioxidants: Makhana contains numerous antioxidants that prevent oxidative damage and neutralize harmful free radicals, which can help decrease the risk of chronic illnesses.
