In the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, company officials claimed that Reliance Jio's True 5G network can improve smartphone battery life by 40 percent. The telco leverages Autonomous Architecture (SA) and other technical features for 5G services in India and allocates spectrum bandwidth based on applications. Both can help improve your smartphone's battery life and performance. Indian telecom operators like Bharti Airtel are using a Non-Standalone Access (NSA) approach to deploy 5G technology on top of existing 4G infrastructure. However, Reliance Jio has taken a different tack and launched SA with the 700 MHz band for rural areas and the 3.5 GHz band for urban centers. In addition, the 26 GHz mmWave band can also be considered for high-capacity applications. This is controlled by the company's intelligent spectrum management, which allocates the appropriate spectrum depending on usage.

According to Kiran͏͏ Thomas, CEO of Reliance ͏ Jio ͏ Infocomm ͏͏ Limited, this approach helps telecom operators improve smartphone battery life from 20 percent to 40 percent. The company is launching Voice over New Radio (VoNR), a 5G wireless communications standard that routes calls over 5G networks and is said to offer better voice quality, faster call setup times and higher security. Reliance Jio is also leveraging other technologies such as layer management based on user equipment (UE) capabilities, time division two-way interference (TDD) in spectrum bands and dedicated network slicing to improve carrier aggregation. It features a programmable network with beam management, traffic routing and energy efficiency based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Company officials also emphasized that Jio's True 5G network can provide better location accuracy without relying on GPS. It calculates the position based on the angle of incidence of each beam and promises positioning accuracy of up to 10 meters.
