A nonprofit organization estimates that, in case the current trend of budget tightening continues, kids athletics will be pushed to danger and about 27% of U.S. public high schools will not be able to accommodate sports by 2020.
Youth sports are at pain, as budgets squeezed in public schools across the US. Around $3.5 billion was deducted from sports budgets of schools, between 2009 and 2011.
A nonprofit for sports-based youth development, Up2US estimates that 27% of the U.S. public high schools may not have any sports by 2020 if the trend continues.
Combating trend - to save youth sports
Dick's Sporting Goods has decided to join hands with DonorsChoose.org, a crowd funding organization, to seek funds for school sports programs. A multi-year commitment of $25 million was made by the company with an intention to help the programs facing budget shortages.
Their goal is to enable kids to play sports again. Sports will play a major role in transforming their lives and teaching them lessons to carry for life time.
Midfielder the U.S. Women's National team that owned the 2015 FIFA World Cup, Carli Lloyd, said, "For me, youth sports laid the foundation of my professional career."
“The two-time Olympic Gold medalist said she learned the value of hard work and to respect teammates and coaches. "Sports give such a wide range of things that can help in the long term," Lloyd added.
