From slavery to citizenship marks the era of Indians in South Africa. They first landed as slaves during the Dutch colonial era in 1684. They conducted a common non-racial struggle for Freedom and Equality, and they what they are today.
South African Indians retain a sense of cultural and social connection to India, and a concept of primary local and secondary ancestral identity is prevalent among people of Indian descent. The 150th anniversary formerly landing in two ships carrying Indian indentured labour from Madras and Calcutta, in South Africa is marked as a celebration in the country. Team India has flown down to South Africa for the second time to take part in this special celebration. They will be playing one T20 game against the home team in Johannesburg on Friday. The match is to be played at the Wanderers Stadium. The only change in Team India is Robin Uthappa takes the place of Sachin Tendulkar.
Strong test event though, SA have not selected the players who were part of the Wellington Test, they are still a strong side and the Indian T20 specialists can expect to be tested to the fullest.
Earlier the celebrations which started in January this year were filled with Bollywood star performances in Durban, with Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor particparting in the event. Then also one T20 was played between the two countries on Jan 9 which India had won by 21 runs. And now the South Africa will be eager to avenge. Interesting match is on the anvil, which also marks history of that nation. (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
