In a remarkable display of skill, Indian cricket sensation Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's impressive record during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday. Kohli became the quickest player in One Day International history to accumulate 14,000 runs, accomplishing this in a mere 287 innings. Tendulkar had previously set the record by reaching the same milestone in 350 innings. Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka is the only other player to exceed 14,000 ODI runs, having done so in 378 innings. Kohli's feat of doing this in fewer than 300 innings is unprecedented. Initiating his innings with just 15 runs needed to hit the milestone, he sealed the record in style by smashing a boundary off Haris Rauf.
Following this achievement, the star player scored his 51st ODI century in 111 balls. India triumphed over Pakistan by six wickets in a decisive Champions Trophy matchup on Sunday, effectively securing their position for the semifinals. Pakistan was bowled out for 241 runs, with Saud Shakeel contributing 62 runs off 76 deliveries, while captain Mohammad Rizwan managed a painstaking 46 runs from 77 balls. Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist spinner, excelled with three wickets for 40 runs, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets, dismissing Babar Azam (23) and Shakeel. India completed their chase in just 42.3 overs, powered by Virat Kohli's unbeaten 100 runs from 111 balls, alongside contributions from Shubman Gill (46 off 52) and Shreyas Iyer (56 off 67). Captain Rohit Sharma added 20 runs off 15 balls, hitting some aggressive shots before being dismissed by a brilliant delivery from Shaheen Afridi. With two victories in two matches, India is virtually assured of a place in the semifinals, while Pakistan faces the threat of elimination after consecutive losses in their initial group games.
