Yashasvi Jaiswal's impressive 161 runs in the second innings of the first Test against Australia in Perth was "probably his best Test performance," said captain Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah also highly praised Virat Kohli for his unbeaten 100 runs, stating that Kohli never seemed "out of form" despite his recent low-scoring matches leading up to the series. Bumrah noted that Jaiswal had a great start to his career, but the way he played in the last innings was likely his best Test innings so far. Jaiswal was able to leave the ball well and play patiently, which helped the team. Jaiswal broke several records on his way to 161, including becoming the second player to convert his first four centuries into 150-plus scores. He bounced back after a duck in the first innings, putting up a 201-run opening partnership with KL Rahul in difficult conditions. Jaiswal is just 15 Tests into his career and has an impressive average of 58.07. Kohli, on the other hand, was coming into this series with an average of only 15 runs.

India's total reached 487 for 6 declared, setting Australia a massive 534-run target. Bumrah stated that Virat Kohli is an experienced player who has been on multiple tours and knows cricket better than anyone. Kohli looked in good shape and was mentally focused, despite facing tough conditions and scenarios throughout his long career. Although he got out early in the first innings, Kohli was in a great space in the second innings, providing the much-needed experience as the team's experienced batsman. His confidence and performance at the start of the series was very valuable for the team. After being dismissed for 150 on the first day, India made a strong comeback with the ball, particularly due to an excellent bowling display by their captain.

Bumrah disclosed what he communicated to his team at the conclusion of their initial innings. The team faced challenges in the opening innings, but Bumrah expressed pride in how they responded. Bumrah's previous experience at the venue helped him adjust to the changing pitch conditions. While the current pitch was less lively than before, the team was well-prepared. Bumrah encouraged the team to trust their process and abilities, as this was an opportunity to achieve something remarkable. While experience is valuable, self-belief can also lead to exceptional performances.
