Eng beaten again in the sixth ODI

England ended the tour to Australia with yet another defeat at the hands of Australia. In the last one-dayer austrilaplayed at Perth yesterday, Australia handed out a 57-run /images/stories/TamilWishesh/Feb-11/feb6drubbing to England. Batting first, Aus set a challenging total of 280 for England to pick up a consolation win in the last ODI of the series before the World Cup .

Aus rested Shane Watson to present an opportunity for fellow wicket-keeper Tim Paine to prove his worth in an inconsequential match of the series where Aus have already won the series. However, it was not to be as Tim Paine departed for just 5 runs on the board. David Hussey ensured that Aus has not missed his half brother Mike Hussey and made a fine 60. Vogues played a valuable unbeaten knock of 80 runs to help Aus pile up 279 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Jimmy Anderson pocketed 3 runs with off-spin all-rounder picking up 2 wickets and seamer plunkett 2 wickets each.

England was never in the hunt as it lost both the openers - Captain Strass and Davies with out openings their accounts. England lost the match by the first half of its innings itself as it lost six wickets by then. With the exception of Yardy(60), Matt Prior(32) other England batsmen played to the strength of Aus. Fast bowlers Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson bagged 3 wickets apiece with off-spinner John Kreza getting 2 wickets. Sadly, England could not continue with its momentum in the ODI series in contrast to what it had in the Test series. Shane Watson was adjudged man of the series for his consistency with both bat and ball. Clearly England was seen to be hit by injuries apart from being drained mentally in the gruelling long season of their campaign.
