Fresh from the entertaining ride of 'Chennai Express', it's time to get over the high jinks and get a grip over reality with a compelling cup of “Madras Cafe”. Starring John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles, this semi-fictional account treads the grounds that led to Rajiv Gandhi's tragic assassination in 1991.

The sardonic script, penned by Somnath Dey and Shubendu Bhattacharya, limns the violent history of the Sri Lankan civil war where thousands of Tamilians lost their lives in the war of separatism. This taut, exceptional political thriller hits the theaters tomorrow.

However, post release, the film has stirred quite a controversy, that now seems to assume more political overtones.  Vaiko's MDMK has even requested the UPA government to put a national ban on the movie, threatening unwanted consequences subsequent to its release.

The BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president Pon Radhakrishnan has accused that the spy thriller demeans Tamils by portraying them as terrorists while supporting Sri Lanka.

" It is condemnable that those not aware of the truth behind the difficulties and miseries of Sri Lankan Tamils are making movies supporting Sri Lanka while portraying Tamils as terrorists. The Congress has to respond to opinions that the film has been made with the support and blessings of the Congress- led UPA government," he said.
