"Gandhi" director, Richard Attenborough ill at 89

Highly renowned movie director Richard Attenborough is reportedly in poor health and was moved to a care home recently. The director is well known to most Indians by his Oscar winning movie, Gandhi, that portrays the life of our father of the nation.

The 89 year old director had been in a wheel chair since 2008. His wife Sheila Sim was moved to the care home earlier after being struck by senile dementia. The director and actor is known to have moved to the same care home in London. He also sold off his house that is worth $18.4 million where he earlier lived with his wife. "He and his wife both loved the house, but they now need full-time care. It simply isn't practical to keep the house on any more", his brother said.

"Brighton Rock" (1947), "The Great Escape" (1963) and "Jurassic Park" (1997) were few movies that serve as a reference to his superior acting skills. He is survived by two kids and wife. One of his daughters, Jane Holland died in the 2004 Thailand tsunami. Sir David Attenborough, the voice of several documentaries on Animal Planet and discovery is his brother.

Richard suffered a stroke in 2008 after which he went into coma. However, his health has never recovered after the incident. David attenborough in 2011 told the world that his brother was in a wheelchair and would refrain from the movie-making career once and for all.
